Pandemic and war in Europe - but Norwegian fish is still popular

Norwegian frozen fish is more popular than in a long time. On Wednesday next week, the whitefish industry will gather in Aalesund to discuss the challenges that this important export industry is facing.

The Frozen at Sea-conference, arranged by the Norwegian Seafood Council, Nordea and Fiskebåt, is the seventh in the row.

- After two years of pandemic and now war in Ukraine, there are turbulent times for the Norwegian fishing industry. So far, however, it seems that Norwegian frozen fish is doing very well, partly due to uncertainty about the supply of Russian fish, and increasing demand in the restaurant market, says Finn-Arne Egeness, who is seafood analyst at Nordea.

Exciting program - here you will find the overview.

The program has also this year three main themes -  political conditions, technology and market.

- The deep sea fishing fleet has been an important contributor to the growth we have seen in the Norwegian seafood industry in the last 15-20 years. This means that we also meet good audiences outside the fisheries sector. This conference has become the most important arena for many in the industry, where you both get professional input, but also meet others who work with the same issues, says conference manager at the Norwegian Seafood Council, Tove Sleipnes.

The seafood industry is a global industry and most of the fish that is fished by Norwegian fishing vessels is exported to the rest of the world.

- We will go through the political conditions for the fleet, we will get the latest news on technology and we will get a brand new update from the most central markets, says head of communications in Fiskebåt, Odd Kristian Dahle.

The conference is on Wednesday 8th June at Scandic Parken, Ålesund
