10% cut in Barents Sea cod quota

ICES, The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, proposes a 10% cut in the cod quota in the Barents Sea next year.

ICES recommends that the Total Allowed Catch (TAC) should be set at 894 000 metric tons, down 99 000 metric tons from the TAC of 2014.

For haddock ICES recommends a quota of 165 000 metric tons in 2015. This is 10% up from the advice for 2014, but lower than the actual quota set by Russia an Norway to 178 500 metric tons. 

The Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission will set the actual quotas for 2015 in October this year.
